Arizonans Paying Higher Prices, Will Lose Jobs Due to Ciscomani & Schweikert’s Votes to Support Tariffs

TUCSON — Arizonans are paying higher prices at the grocery store and could lose their jobs after Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani voted multiple times to support cost-raising tariffs to give more tax breaks to billionaires.

According to the Arizona Republic:

“Consumers can expect grocery store prices for tomatoes to rise in the coming months after the Trump administration imposed new 17% duties on tomatoes imported from Mexico, according to trade advocates.

The new tariffs also are expected to deal a financial blow to Arizona's multi-billion dollar tomato import industry that could result in job losses and profit declines that will ripple through the broader economy, trade advocates and importers say.”

Following a now predictable pattern, Congressman Ciscomani sent a strongly worded letter  telling Arizonans that he would fight for them, only to vote to raise prices for Arizonans.

The Republic continues:

“Ending the agreement puts 50,000 jobs in Texas and Arizona alone at risk, according to a June 11 letter signed by Reps. Andy Biggs, Elijah Crane and Juan Ciscomani, Republicans from Arizona, and Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Republican from Texas.

‘Ending the (Tomato Suspension Agreement) would abandon a key achievement and principle of President Trump's America First Agenda,’ the letter said. ‘This agreement has safeguarded American jobs, stabilized markets, and driven agricultural innovation without burdensome government interference. The current plan undermines those successes and disregards the interests of American workers.’”

"Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani say they support Arizona jobs and lowering costs, but they voted multiple times to support job-killing, cost-raising tariffs," said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Schweikert and Ciscomani need to use their votes to lower costs for Arizonans, not raise them every time the President tells them to."
