A Key House Republican Supports $500 Billion in Cuts to Medicaid, Do Schweikert & Ciscomani Agree?
PHOENIX — A key ‘moderate’ Republican says he is willing to cut $500 billion from Medicaid. Do Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert agree with him?
Both Arizona congressmen voted for a budget resolution last month that requires massive cuts to Medicaid—known as AHCCCS in Arizona—that 2 million Arizonans rely on to access their health care. Congressman Ciscomani has sent Speaker Johnson multiple letters outlining just how important Medicaid is to his district but voted twice for the budget plan anyway.
That same budget plan would give trillions in tax giveaways to the wealthy and corporations. Just this weekend, Ciscomani said preserving those tax cuts, the same ones that benefit the ultra-wealthy, was a major priority.
“Any cut to Medicaid would be disastrous for Arizonans’ health care, and that's why Ciscomani and Schweikert should oppose any cut to Medicaid to pay for billionaires' tax giveaways,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “Now, a key ‘moderate’ that signed the same letter Ciscomani did says he’s willing to cut $500 billion from Medicaid. Does Ciscomani agree? If he and Schweikert are serious about protecting Medicaid, then they should vote against any cuts to the program.”
