The Republican Tax Law and How it Impacts You
In July 2025, Congressional Republicans and President Trump stood with the wealthy and corporations once again.
Congressional Republicans voted for the Republican Tax Law (the One Big Beautiful Bill), signed by President Trump, that gave tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy, while drastically cutting Medicaid, SNAP food assistance, clean energy tax credits, and student aid.
The 2025 Republican Tax Law Cuts Health Care, Food, and More to Pay for Massive Tax Breaks for Billionaires and Corporations
Average Arizonans will not receive a tax cut from the 2025 Republican Tax Law. Instead, they will see drastic cuts to their health care, SNAP, clean energy, and student financial aid as prices rise because of tariffs.
Healthcare
The Republican Tax Law made massive cuts to Medicaid and failed to extend the Affordable Care Act's enhanced premium tax credits, which will leave 420,000 Arizonans without health care. Significant cuts to Medicaid will kick 290,000 Arizonans off their health coverage and will put five rural hospitals at risk of closure, threatening access to health care for all Arizonans. Additionally, more than 41,000 jobs will be lost in Arizona as a result of Medicaid cuts in the Republican Tax Law. Since Congressional Republicans failed to extend ACA premium tax credits, 120,000 Arizonans will lose health care and face rising health premium costs.
Food Assistance
SNAP will also see heavy cuts, making it harder for working families in Arizona to put food on the table—especially as grocery prices rise because of tariffs. As many as 73,000 families in Arizona will be at risk of losing SNAP. These devastating cuts will hurt families with children, veterans, and immigrants. More than 170 grocery stores and SNAP retailers will face financial instability and decreased business as a result of cuts in the Republican Tax Law. This will result in lost jobs and hungry families across the state.
Education
New student loan borrowers who depend on federal aid for schooling could face monthly minimum payments under the Republican Tax Law, and students will also face caps on how much federal aid they can receive, which may impact students who plan to pursue law, medical, and graduate degrees.
Clean Energy Incentives
The 2025 Republican Tax Law also fails to extend clean energy tax credits, which will raise utility costs by more than $200 per year for Arizonans. Under the Republican Tax Law, Arizonans will also spend an average of $310 more on gasoline annually. In addition to rising energy costs, roughly 18,000 Arizona jobs will be lost by 2030 as a result of the repeal of clean energy tax credits.
Impacts of the Republican Tax Law: Rural Hospital Closures
Five rural hospitals in Arizona are at risk of closure due to the passage of the Republican Tax Law.
Page Hospital (Page)
Little Colorado Medical Center (Winslow)
Copper Queen Community Hospital (Bisbee)
Carondelet Holy Cross Hospital (Nogales)
Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center (Globe)
Approximately 50,000 Arizonans would be directly affected by the closure of these hospitals, and it would have ripple effects across the state. With these closures, rural Arizonans will have to travel further for emergencies, routine medical exams, and procedures.
Not only will this impact care for rural Arizonans, but it could break the bank for Arizonans who can’t afford constant travel.
“I think it’s very unfair that there are millionaires and billionaires who can pay zero taxes on their earnings. There are corporations, big corporations that made billions of dollars worth of profits and still pay zero taxes. I don’t understand that. How can that happen? How is that fair to the middle class?”

Impacts of the Republican Tax Law: Energy Prices
“Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani are supposed to be looking out for Arizonans, not billionaires, but their votes for massive tax breaks benefit those at the very top while Arizonans lose access to health care.”
