Honest Arizona Launched New Accountability Ad, Hosted Health Care Roundtable
PHOENIX — Honest Arizona hosted a health care roundtable in Tucson earlier this week, and at the same time launched a new ad as part of a seven-figure campaign to hold Congressman Ciscomani accountable for his vote to kick millions of Americans off of Medicaid coverage.
Honest Arizona’s ad features Chad, an MS patient in Tucson, and Chris, his mother who urge Congressman Ciscomani to do the right thing and vote to protect health care.
Medicaid – known in Arizona as AHCCCS – provides affordable care to 2 million Arizonans. Last year, congressional Republicans voted for a tax law that kicks millions of Americans out of Medicaid coverage.
Chris shared the story of a recent infusion treatment that Chad typically goes through twice a year. The bill came with a staggering price tag of $67,000. While his copay was $2,300, his monthly spending cap for Medicaid is $1,400.
Fortunately, Chad can rely on his parents for financial support, but many other Arizonans aren’t as lucky.
“For me that's just a perfect picture of how difficult it is for people like Chad to get the care they need: it's impossible,” Chris said. “It's almost two months of disability for the deductible that he has twice a year. What do you live on by the time you pay that?”
Representatives from Reproductive Freedom for All AZ, Protect Our Care, and Healthcare Rising Arizona were also in attendance.
