ICYMI: Study Finds Americans Paying 95% Republican Tariffs, Not Foreign Companies

TUCSON — A new study by economic researchers at the independent Kiel Institute found that Americans are paying the brunt of Republican tariffs – upwards of 95 percent – backed by Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani.

According to TIME:

The study concludes that the $200 billion increase in customs revenue that the U.S. government raised in 2025 was a “tax paid almost entirely by Americans.”

In the immediate future, it said consumers are the “ultimate bearers of the burden.”

‘Whether through higher prices on imported goods, higher prices on domestically produced goods that use imported inputs, or reduced availability and variety of products, American households pay for the tariffs,’ the study found.

"The new study shows what Arizonans have known for the last year: tariffs are a tax on consumers and we're all paying higher prices as a result," said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani have a chance to actually prove they have their constituents back this month by voting to end the tariffs. Arizonans are demanding that they look out for us and work to lower tariffs and lower prices."
