Ciscomani, Schweikert Vote for Farm Bill That Fails to Restore SNAP Funding
Arizona Remains Ground Zero for SNAP Cuts Crisis
TUCSON —Following last night's vote on the Farm Bill that failed to restore SNAP funding, Honest Arizona Executive Director Andrea Moreno released the following statement:
“Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert voted for a Farm Bill that fails to reverse the devastating cuts they supported in last year’s Republican Tax Law. Arizona is now facing a crisis with the highest drop in SNAP enrollment in the nation. Ciscomani and Schweikert chose to vote for a bill that leaves seniors, children, veterans, and working families behind. They had an opportunity to fix the damage and ensure Arizonans could afford basic necessities, but they repeatedly prioritize tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy over their own constituents."
Cecy, a Tucson mother, said:
“It’s harder than ever to get SNAP benefits, and it’s impacting my family. I recently moved back to Arizona, looking for a better opportunity for my family, but I haven’t been able to secure benefits like SNAP to ensure our success. Not only are grocery trips expensive, but not having access to benefits that help me keep food on the table is adding to the pressure. The fact that there are elected officials like Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert who are choosing to make it harder for families to access the help they need to thrive is incredibly devastating.”
