Ciscomani & Schweikert's Health Care Cuts Threaten Arizona Children

Despite Knowing Dire Consequences, Ciscomani & Schweikert Voted For Republican Tax Law

PHOENIX — Arizona health care providers are sounding the alarm that health care coverage for children in Arizona will soon be threatened by the same Republican Tax Law that Congressman Ciscomani warned would be devastating for Arizonans.

Because of the Republican Tax Law that Ciscomani and his Arizona colleague Congressman David Schweikert voted for, over 400,000 Arizonans will lose health care coverage. Before voting for the law, Ciscomani warned it "threatens access to coverage" and "jeopardizes the stability of our hospitals and providers."

According to NPR, "the [Republican Tax Law's nearly $1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid] 'cannot be achieved without directly affecting coverage and care for Arizona's kids, especially the most vulnerable among them,' said Robert Meyer, chief executive of Phoenix Children's, a pediatric hospital system. About half the system's revenue comes from Medicaid."

"Congressman Ciscomani and Schweikert should be ashamed of themselves for stripping Arizona families, including Arizona's most vulnerable children, of needed health care: an outcome Ciscomani said would happen and then voted for it anyway," said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "As Congress negotiates a bill to keep the government open, Schwikert and Ciscomani must ensure that the bill they vote for restores health care and food benefits that the Republican Tax Law stripped out."
