Ciscomani & Schweikert Voted In Favor of Proposed Amendment that Threatens Future of Social Security, Health Care

TUCSON — Honest Arizona and the Arizona Alliance for Retired Americans released the following statement after Congressman Schweikert and Congressman Ciscomani voted for a constitutional amendment that threatens the future viability of Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare:

“Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani joined Congressman Biggs and voted today to threaten the future of Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. The amendment they voted for threatens the livelihood of millions of Arizona seniors and low-income Arizonans who rely on Medicaid to access health care. The GOP Tax Law that Congress passed last year kicks millions of Americans who rely on Medicaid off of their health care, forcing them to wait until they have an emergency to see the doctor. It also contributes to the Social Security Trust Fund being exhausted one year earlier. On top of all that, it gives $1 trillion in tax breaks for the very wealthy. After all that the GOP Tax Law does, voting today to threaten these hard-fought and hard-earned benefits even more is a slap in the face to the Arizonans who rely on these safety net programs to survive. Shame on those who voted for this.”
