Arizonans Will Lose Health Care, Schweikert Calls Them Bedwetters
PHOENIX — Over 400,000 Arizonans are projected to lose health care coverage because of the Republican Tax Law, but Congressman David Schweikert, who voted for the law, is calling people worried about losing care ‘bedwetters.’
The Republican Tax Law will increase the deficit by $3.4 trillion and cut vital health care for Arizonans, all to pay for massive tax giveaways for billionaires and corporations, undermining Schweikert’s claim that the law is fiscally responsible.
Schweikert’s own delegation colleague, Republican Congressman Juan Ciscomani, said the Republican Tax Law "threatens access to coverage" and "jeopardizes the stability of our hospitals and providers."
According to the Arizona Republic:
“U.S. Rep. David Schweikert is defending the recent Republican-led reforms to Medicaid, after he called concerns on the issue ‘whining and bedwetting.’
The reforms are projected to cause millions of Americans to lose their health insurance, largely by expanding requirements that enrollees prove they are working or qualify for an exemption. They are also eventually projected to subtract billions of dollars from Arizona’s health care economy, by cutting a tax that the state uses to finance Medicaid.”
“Congressman Schweikert calls millions of Americans ‘bedwetters’ because they’re going to lose health care coverage because of him,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “When you resort to name-calling your constituents who are worried about their health care, you’ve failed them as their elected leader, and Congressman Schweikert should be ashamed of himself.”
