Costs Go Up This Week for Many Small Purchases, Thanks to Ciscomani & Schweikert's Support for Trump Tariffs

TUCSON — Due in part to Congressman Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert's votes to support tariffs, the cost of imported small-value goods go up starting on Friday, when more tariff rules take effect.

Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani voted multiple times in support of President Trump's tariffs, and now Arizonans already struggling with high costs will see even more price increases.

According to Business Insider:

“Many packages imported into the US valued at $800 or less are exempt from tariffs — until Friday.

On Friday, the de minimis exemption will end for the rest of the world, including regions where Americans often make smaller purchases, including Mexico, Canada, and Europe.

It could mean higher prices for many goods. That is, if the items still arrive. Many delivery companies are pausing services to the US as they adapt to the new rules, citing a lack of clarity over how to comply and who pays for and enforces the changes.”

"Raising prices on small-value items is a direct attack on working Arizona families struggling with high costs," said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Schweikert and Ciscomani have had countless opportunities this year to stop tariffs and other Republican policies that are raising costs, but at every step of the way, they've refused to look out for their constituents."
