Arizonans Are Facing Higher Health Care Costs Because Ciscomani and Schweikert Refuse to Support Health Care Tax Credit Discharge Petition
TUCSON – After the U.S. Senate failed this week to extend health care tax credits, Arizonans called on Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert to recognize the urgency of the moment and sign onto a Democratic-led discharge petition to extend health care tax credits for three years.
Ciscomani, Schweikert and their Republican colleagues were quick to pass the Republican Tax Law granting massive tax breaks to billionaires and corporations this summer, but they have failed to extend the health care tax credits all year, despite knowing that they would expire. With urgent action needed ahead of the first Open Enrollment deadline on December 15, it is critical that Ciscomani and Schweikert sign onto the three-year extension proposed by Democrats.
Health care costs, which are already too high in the United States, are about to get higher for many families," said Dr. Raj Singhal, a pediatric anesthesiologist. "In fact, we're already starting to see this as the open enrollment period for 2026 coverage under the Affordable Care Act comes to a close. Over the last six weeks, patients and families logged on to renew their plan or sign up for the first time. And when they saw what their rates for 2026 might be, I suspect that many logged off when they saw that their premiums could double or even triple from their rates last year. The reason for this rate increase is because congressional Republicans have refused to work across the aisle to extend the enhanced premium tax credits for the ACA plans.
“Arizonans are facing higher health care costs because Schweikert and Ciscomani have yet to sign onto the Democratic three-year discharge petition.” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “As the deadline to sign up for coverage rapidly approaches, Schweikert and Ciscomani must do the right thing and support the petition to extend the health care tax credits.”
