Trump Admin to Remove 750,000 ACA Enrollees Off Health Care Coverage

TUCSON — In another attempt to undermine the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that provides private health insurance to nearly 20 million Americans, the Trump administration announced it will remove 750,000 enrollees off of coverage.

Earlier this year, cost-saving tax credits that help lower-income enrollees better afford health care coverage expired. All six Arizona Congressional Republicans, including Juan Ciscomani, voted against extending the health care tax credits.

According to The New York Times:

“Enrollment in coverage sold in the Affordable Care Act marketplaces had already fallen by several million this year, after Congress declined to extend temporary funding that had made coverage less expensive. Prices rose substantially, and many low-income Americans lost access to free coverage. Early filings from insurers suggest that prices will increase substantially again next year. The sign-up period will begin days before the midterm congressional election.

Though there is little current data on the uninsured rate now, estimates from the C.B.O. and other analysts suggest that most of the lower-income people who have lost Obamacare coverage will remain uninsured.”

"Arizonans are seeing higher prices everywhere they look, and during the upcoming open enrollment period, ACA enrollees will see even higher premiums because the health care tax credits that made coverage more affordable for millions of Americans expired. Congressman Juan Ciscomani voted against extending the health care tax credits," said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. "Arizonans want lower costs and affordable access to health care, but instead, many Arizonans will lose coverage or pay much more for their coverage."
