Schweikert & Ciscomani Vote in Favor of Tariffs on Canada Despite Higher Costs for Arizonans

PHOENIX — Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani voted today in to affirm their support for tariffs placed on Canada last year, America's strongest trading partner, despite the fact that tariffs force Arizonans to pay more.

Alex, a small business owner in the Valley who operates a plant nursery and farm, is feeling the impact everyday he tries to make business decisions.

Alex said:

"Our costs of goods have significantly increased. Our nursery cups and plant trays are more expensive. The steel and aluminum greenhouse structures we use are also more expensive.

I’ve even looked into manufacturing these in house but what most people don’t understand is that 'made in USA' or 'American made' still utilizes machinery and raw materials sourced from overseas that are impacted by tariffs.

These tariffs are disproportionately hurting small businesses and low income families. We don’t have a solution for driving these costs down and businesses are forced to raise prices to continue operations. We live in a global economy and rely on global supply chain for competitive pricing and availability. It doesn’t make sense to cut us off from that."
