Reconciliation Update: Schweikert Votes to Throw Fiscal Responsibility, Arizonans Under Bus To Give More Tax Breaks To The Ultra-Rich

PHOENIX — Honest Arizona executive director Andrea Moreno released the following statement after Congressman David Schweikert voted in favor of a House Ways & Means Committee bill that gives trillions in tax giveaways to the wealthiest Americans and forces future generations to pay for it — while voting against multiple amendments that would have blocked President Trump’s tariffs, extended cost-saving ACA health insurance tax credits and protected Social Security, all things that could have benefitted Arizonans:

"Congressman David Schweikert, who claims he's a proponent of fiscal responsibility when he votes to cut vital funding for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, voted for a massive budget-busting tax giveaway to the wealthiest Americans and corporations. In addition to Trump's tariffs, which Schweikert previously voted to support, his vote today will increase taxes on the lowest-earning Americans to give the wealthiest even more money. The bill also fails to extend cost-saving premium tax credits that help thousands of Arizonans afford health care coverage. Congressman Schweikert voted to throw fiscal responsibility and the needs of working Arizonans under the bus and hand the keys to the billionaires who already pay less than their fair share."
