One Year Later: Cost-Raising Tariff Policies Hurt Arizonans
TUCSON — Honest Arizona Executive Director Andrea Moreno released the following statement one year after President Trump – with the support of Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani – imposed across the board, cost-raising tariffs that are threatening the bottom line for Arizona families and small businesses:
"Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert backed tariffs that raise prices on everything from groceries to building materials, and now the Iran war they voted to support is sending gas prices skyrocketing. Every day, everything is getting more expensive for Arizonans and it's squeezing small businesses and forcing families to pay more for basic necessities. Arizonans want lower prices, but Schweikert and Ciscomani have voted to do the opposite at virtually every turn. It's time for Schweikert and Ciscomani to start doing what Arizonans demand and vote to return Arizonans’ money back to them.”
An Honest Arizona report details the impact of tariffs for Arizonans who paid $2.1 billion for tariffs last year alone, and they are expected to pay more in 2026. Arizonans rely extensively on trading partners like Mexico for groceries, and Arizona small businesses like LDV Winery, Morton Glassworks, GameBro, and many others, are facing less supply and higher prices that trickle down to customers.
