Arizonans Demand Ciscomani & Schweikert Reverse Health Care Cuts, Reopen Government

TUCSON — Arizonans gathered in Scottsdale and Tucson today to demand that Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert restore health care tax credits and Medicaid funding and reopen the government.

"I am here to defend Democracy and oppose the government shutdown. Without affordable healthcare, our economy will continue to deteriorate and divide our nation even further,” said Hester who joined the Schweikert protest for the first time.

Open enrollment starts in less than a month, and Arizonans are already facing higher premiums unless Congress acts.

According to CNBC:

"The average marketplace enrollee saved $705 in 2024 — a 44% reduction in premium costs — because of the enhanced tax credits, according to a November analysis by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a nonpartisan research and policy institute.

Without the credits, average out-of-pocket premiums in 2026 would rise by more than 75%, Larry Levitt, KFF’s executive vice president for health policy, said during the webinar.

Additionally, 4.2 million Americans would become uninsured over the next decade if the enhanced subsidies lapse, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office."

“Arizonans are facing higher health care costs and many will lose coverage unless Ciscomani and Schweikert act,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “Shutting down the government to protect billionaires’ tax cuts while robbing Arizonans of their access to health care is a betrayal of their oath, and they need to fix it now.”
