60 Years After Medicaid & Medicare Enacted, Schweikert & Ciscomani's Tax Law Cuts Arizonans' Health Care
TUCSON — Honest Arizona executive director Andrea Moreno issued the following statement on the 60th anniversary of Medicaid and Medicare being enacted and less than one month after Congressmen Schweikert and Ciscomani voted for the Republican Tax Law that cuts health care for more than 15 million Americans:
“For decades, seniors, low-income and disabled Arizonans have known they can rely on Medicaid and Medicare to make health care access more affordable, and health care providers—especially in rural areas—have relied on those programs to help keep their doors open and serve their communities. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, these lifelines have been strengthened by expanding Medicaid coverage to more low-income Arizonans and protecting people with pre-existing conditions from being denied health care. But that will no longer be the case. The Republican Tax Law that Congressmen David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani voted for guts Medicaid, opens the door to Medicare cuts, and cuts the ACA in ways that will make health care more expensive. Instead of prioritizing lower health care costs for Arizonans, Schweikert and Ciscomani voted to give massive tax breaks to the wealthy.”
Before voting for the Republican Tax Law, Congressman Juan Ciscomani told Senators that the Republican Tax Law “threatens access to coverage [and] jeopardizes the stability of our hospitals and providers.”
