Year After Ciscomani Voted for Republican Tax Law, Arizonans Facing Cuts to Food and Health Care
TUCSON — A year after Congressman Juan Ciscomani voted for the Republican Tax Law that cut health care and food assistance to pay for tax breaks for billionaires, Southern Arizonans are facing the consequences of steep cuts.
According to the Tucson Sentinel:
“A year ago, Republicans celebrated the passage of H.R. 1. It was a tax cut mainly for the well-to-do paid for by cutting services to the people who are telling pollster after pollster they are struggling like never before. Now the cuts are hitting home.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program (forever known as "food stamps") was cut by more than $100 billion dollars.
In Pima County, 77,000 SNAP recipients have been kicked off the program. More cuts are coming to Medicaid after the election. More than 7 percent of all Pima County residents lost their benefits to pay for tax cuts that mainly benefit the rich.
Healthcare premiums already ballooned after the Trump spending cuts stopped providing subsidies to many.”
“Congressman Ciscomani knew that his vote for the Republican Tax Law would hurt Arizonans, but he did it anyway,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “Arizonans are suffering and they need Ciscomani to start looking out for them and stop siding with billionaires.”
