With Iran War Ongoing, Inflation Rose Again to Highest Level in Three Years
TUCSON — With the war with Iran ongoing and the global energy market in flux, inflation rose for the third straight month in May as Arizonans see higher prices across the board.
Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert voted for the war with Iran multiple times and as a result, gas prices in Arizona were projected to drop to $3 a gallon and prices are now $1.50 higher statewide. Advancing AZ recently ran an ad campaign in Tucson highlighting the impact of Ciscomani’s energy policies on rising costs that Arizonans face across the board.
According to CNBC:
“‘Americans are getting squeezed financially by inflation that’s back at a 3-year high,’ said Heather Long, chief economist at Navy Federal Credit Union. The frustration for many Americans is that so many of the basics are up in price right now -- gas, food, electricity, and medical care are all clear pain points that are above 3% inflation. Ending the war in Iran will help to moderate inflation, but the worst is likely still to come for rising food prices.’
With the U.S. caught in ongoing hostilities with Iran, concerns are rising that the surge in oil prices could spread to other energy-sensitive parts of the economy. Markets were rattled again Wednesday when President Donald Trump warned that Iran will “pay the price” for not taking a peace deal.”
“Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert said lowering prices was a priority, but when given the chance to vote against the inflation-causing war with Iran, they voted to keep the war going every single time,” said Andrea Moreno, Executive Director of Honest Arizona. “Schweikert and Ciscomani need to start looking out for their constituents and vote to lower costs, not raise them.”
