Supreme Court Strikes Down Most of GOP Tariffs That Hurt Arizonans, Raised Costs Over the Last Year
TUCSON — The Supreme Court today struck down most of the Republican-backed tariffs that Congressmen Juan Ciscomani and David Schweikert voted to support.
A recent report by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office found that 95 percent of tariffs are paid by U.S. consumers, not by foreign countries as Trump and his Republican allies in Congress claim. The nonpartisan Tax Foundation also found that in 2025 alone, tariffs cost U.S. households $1,000 more than they would have paid without them – and that number was expected to increase in 2026.
And the Center for American Progress found that tariffs significantly raised costs for small businesses, forcing them to increase their prices and even delay planned expansions.
Jen Mawcinitt with Wildlings Toy Boutique said:
"Congressmen Ciscomani and Schweikert say they support lowering costs for Arizonans, but they have voted multiple times in support of tariffs that are raising costs across the board for me and my customers. The Supreme Court ruled today on tariffs, but what's been clear for months is that they’re bad for Arizonans and Ciscomani and Schweikert aren’t working on behalf of their constituents. Ciscomani and Schweikert need to work to stop the tariffs that President Trump has imposed because it's forcing all of us to pay more of our hard-earned money."
