Medicaid In ‘Jeopardy’ As It Turns 61

TUCSON — Honest Arizona Executive Director Andrea Moreno released the following statement on the 61st anniversary of the enactment of Medicaid.

“Last summer, Congressman Ciscomani warned Washington that the Republican Tax Law ‘threatens access to coverage or jeopardizes the stability of our hospitals and providers.’ And then he voted for it. Sadly and painfully for many Arizonans, his predictions have come true just a year later. 

For over 60 years, millions of Americans have relied on Medicaid to afford health care, but Congressman Ciscomani rightfully pointed out that their future access is in jeopardy. Clinics in Arizona are already closing or near closure, just as he predicted. Now, the Trump administration is proposing even more drastic changes that threaten coverage for Arizonans with serious illnesses, which wouldn’t be possible without Ciscomani’s devastating vote. Arizonans agree that families shouldn’t lose their life savings trying to get access to health care. We need Ciscomani to work to fix the problem he created to give the wealthiest more tax breaks. Arizonans demand that Ciscomani put their own lives ahead of the billionaires he chose to gift tax breaks to."
