Despite Falling Asleep on the Job, Schweikert Still Wants to Cut Health Care to Fund Massive Tax Breaks for Billionaires

PHOENIX — Congressman David Schweikert has spent the last week assuring his Republican colleagues that he supports the Republican Tax Scam – that would throw over 300,000 Arizonans off their health insurance and raise costs for Arizonans to fund massive tax giveaways to the wealthiest Americans and corporations – if he hadn’t slept through the vote.

The Republican Tax Scam also:

  • Increases health insurance costs for hundreds of thousands of Arizonans by up to 87% a year on average and puts 26,307 in Congressman Schweikert’s district at risk of losing health insurance 

  • Takes away food from up to 11 million Americans, including kids, seniors, and veterans

  • Takes away cost-saving energy tax credits that help Arizonans afford clean energy upgrades and encourage job creation in the state

“Millions of Arizonans rely on Medicaid to access health care, and Congressman Schweikert wants to put my coverage at risk," said Andrea Moreno, executive director of Honest Arizona.
