Cost of Living Major Issue for Arizonans This Election
TUCSON — Honest Arizona spent the last 18 months holding Congressman Juan Ciscomani accountable for his record, including his health care and SNAP cuts in the Republican Tax Law, his support for cost-raising tariffs, and multiple votes in support of the war with Iran.
During the last year, Honest Arizona:
Held community events, press conferences and town halls to give Arizonans an opportunity to address their elected leaders on Medicaid cuts;
Ran multiple ad campaigns to allow Arizonans to talk about how the cost of living crisis was affecting them; and
Gave a voice to small business owners and community members alike to share their stories on the impact of rising gas and diesel prices and losing access to health care.
Executive Director Andrea Moreno said:
“Since our first town hall in March of last year, we've heard consistently from Arizonans that they want their elected leaders to focus on affordability, yet Congressman Juan Ciscomani ignored us. From gas prices to health care premiums, everything has gotten more expensive, while the wealthiest have only seen the playing field tilt in their direction. We'll continue to lift up the voices of working Arizonans and call for our elected representatives to lower costs, reverse Medicaid cuts, undo cuts to SNAP.”
Garrett Newell, an Honest Arizona supporter living with cerebral palsy:
“Without Medicaid, my health care costs would be simply unaffordable. It's a problem that too many Arizonans face, yet Honest Arizona gave me the opportunity to share my story and be a voice for all of us who rely on Medicaid. In fact, I got to travel to Washington, D.C. and tell Congressman Ciscomani's staff about how important protecting Medicaid is to people like me. Unfortunately, his staff was dismissive and he ultimately voted to make drastic cuts to Medicaid. He voted to kick millions of people off their health care, even though he knew better. I’m part of a movement that is now committed to undoing harmful policies that hurt me, my neighbors, and everyone in Arizona."
